Addendum to West Ham report

I knew there was something to add to that rant about the ‘the game’ and refereeing in particular.

What’s the biggest root cause of the issues with trying to referee professional football? Why is it so difficult to tell whether someone has been legitimately fouled or not?

Players constantly cheat.

From the first whistle they feign injury and ‘contact’ and it’s just accepted.

Referees could call that out. In fact if Howard Webb – and I promise you that fucker will end up in ‘The Jungle’ in the next couple of years, mark my words – was really concerned with the ‘integrity of the game’, he would come out and demand that clubs instruct their players to knock it on the head as it’s ruining the sport.

But no referee ever mentions it. Never. Not one of them. No matter how much bile is directed their way and their competence questioned by managers, they never turn around and offer up the perfect rebuttal.

Almost like they’ve been instructed not to.

Wedge.

Thin end.

Got to be honest, reading that back it really didn’t merit a post of its own.

You live and learn.
